Mentorship Program Guidelines
These guidelines are intended to serve as suggestions and reassurance as your mentor/mentee relationship progresses. The combination of these guidelines with realistic and flexible expectations can assist the mentor and mentee in developing a valuable mentoring partnership.
Objective:
To connect a mentee from the REFORMA Los Angeles Chapter with an experienced mentor in order to establish a meaningful relationship that allows the mentee access to the advice, guidance, and support of an established library and information professional.
Commitments:
One year (July 2024 - June 2025)
Mentors/Mentees will meet 4-6 times a year, either by phone, email, web conferencing, or in person.
Attend virtual mentorship program kick-off TBD in July, which will delineate expectations and provide strategies for success.
Mentor Requirements:
Be a member of REFORMA for at least one year.
Have at least five years of experience working in the library and information field (e.g. public, private, academic, corporate and school libraries, archives, cataloging, metadata, etc.).
Show willingness to share your accumulated knowledge and experience to help establish the relationship.
Have a desire to support, encourage and guide future and new librarians.
Complete a participation survey at the end of the program.
Mentee Requirements:
Be a member of the REFORMA Los Angeles chapter.
Current library school student or recent graduate (within the last three years).
Be open to receive feedback from your mentor.
Be prepared to discuss your needs and objectives with your mentor.
