Beatriz Sarmiento

I worked for the city of Commerce Public Library for 22 years. I was the Literacy Coordinator for 11 years and Library Director for another 11 years. I have been a board member for the following associations: SCLC, Diversity Committee for the State Library, and Southern California Literacy Council. I am a proud member of REFORMA and have helped with events in the past and currently committed to the LA Libro’s planning team. I would be honored to serve as Vice President and continue to help lead the great work of the LA Chapter.

Juan Guillermo Garcia

Guillermo was born and raised in Mexico City. He moved to the United States in 2005. He got his bachelor’s degree in Library Science from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), in Mexico City, Mexico. He got his Master of Science, Library Science degree from the University of North Texas in 2017. Guillermo is currently a Library Supervisor at Glendale Library, Arts and Culture in Glendale, CA. He supervises the Grandview and Casa Verdugo branch libraries. Guillermo is also part of the Board of Directors at Glendale Latino Association.

Fiorella Casella

Fiorella Casella or Fio, as she prefers, is the Teen Services Librarian at Long Beach Public Library - BJK Main Branch. Fio has been part of the library world since 2018 when she started volunteering at Anaheim Central Library and Buena Park Library as she simultaneously worked on her MLIS through SJSU. Previously, she was part of the non-profit sector and worked in affordable housing in Anaheim and East Los Angeles. In her non-profit career, she supported Spanish-speaking communities through advocacy, education, and social services. She put together quarterly community events that addressed food security and health disparities as well as ran a teen after-school program that emphasized the arts. Currently, she leads an array of library programs to support teen wellness and education; such as clubs that highlight a variety of hobbies - from crochet to anime, the Youth at Work teen internship program, and teen volunteers. She also worked on integrating teen programming into interdepartmental approaches to support new language learners- through Los Bookies. Outside of her job, she enjoys reading graphic novels, and comic books, crocheting, thrifting, and walking her 2 dogs.

Sara Corona

Sarah Corona graduated in 2020 with a MLIS and MA in Latin American Studies where she focused on archival studies, JDEI issues, and Chicana/o art. She has experience in a variety of institutions processing archival materials related to Latinx historical figures. Currently, Sarah is working at a packaging and logistics company managing controlled documents and training materials. She is excited about the opportunity to be more involved in REFORMA Los Angeles’ community of individuals who are passionate about providing library and information services for Spanish speaking people.

Sonia Bautista

Sonia Bautista is the Director of Library Services of the City of Commerce Library and is also an Adjunct Librarian at East Los Angeles Community College. She has been a member of Reforma LA Chapter for the past 15 years. She’s held various positions in the chapter as treasurer, president, Chapter Representative at Reforma national level. Sonia is also a Consultant for California Humanities Library Innovation Lab Grant where she oversees and mentors five Southern California Librarians.

Pedro Orellana

Hello, my name is Pedro Orellana, and I work as an adult services librarian at the Cerritos Library. I hold a B.A. degree from Cal State Los Angeles and an MMLIS degree from the University of Southern California. My library career started in 2001 as a library aide. Over time, I worked to become a Library Technician at Anaheim Public Library, a Library Assistant at Cerritos Library, and a library aide at LA Law Library. In 2016, I earned my MMLIS degree and became a PT Librarian at Cerritos Library while also working as an adjunct librarian at Golden West College. I am now an FT librarian at Cerritos Library since July 2018.
